Event Recap: From Farm to Film: A Screening & Panel on Soil, Carbon, and Climate
Thank you everyone who turned out for our sold-out screening of Grass Farmers (dir. Chad Galloway) at Rethink Food, co-hosted with our friends at the Ceres Food Film Festival! We had a fantastic time and were blown away by Chef Ken Baker’s upcycled food from Rethink Food’s new kitchen.
Grass Farmer’s exploration of the intricate relationship between traditional land management practices and modern environmental sustainability efforts raised a number of rich conversations, including topics that directly relate to sustainable food systems and accessibility in our own NYC backyard. We’re grateful to our panelists Ken Baker of Rethink Food, Ben Flanner of Brooklyn Grange, Neeti Jain from the NYC Mayor’s Office of Food Policy, and Michael Robinov of Farm to People, as well as the audience for their spirited engagement.
If you’re interested in getting involved with sustainable food & film, our partners all have ways to take action and learn more:
Rethink Food exists to bridge the gap between excess food and the communities that need it, striving to alleviate food insecurity. Volunteer & support their work and new space!
Brooklyn Grange is the leading rooftop farming and intensive green roofing business in the US, fostering more livable and climate adapted cities. They restore the connection between people and the natural world through food, education, and events.
Farm to People is on a mission to radically transform the food system and the way people get food to their table. Sign up for access to the freshest, high-quality produce, seafood, meats, and more, direct from growers and producers you can trust.
The Mayor’s Office of Food Policy works to advance the City’s efforts to increase food security, promote access to and consumption of healthy foods, and support economic opportunity and environmental sustainability in the food system.
We’re looking forward to programming more dynamic, issue-driven events in the months ahead. Stay tuned for our upcoming City of Water Day screening in July!
